Adoption ModernizationPublished on November 23, 2020
November is Adoption Awareness Month. All children and youth deserve a loving family and a permanent home where they can receive the supports they need to succeed and thrive.
One of the goals of our child welfare redesign is to improve the adoption experience for families and to increase the number of public adoptions in Ontario.
That is why we are announcing an additional investment of $1.5 million annually to help parents with additional post-adoption peer supports and training, develop a centralized intake system to begin the adoption process and expanding online matching to bring more prospective adoptive parents, children and youth together permanently.
Ontario is providing an immediate investment of nearly $600,000 annually to enhance post-adoption training and peer supports by expanding Adoption Council of Ontario’s Pathways to Permanence 2 Training and Adopt4Life’s Parent2Parent support program
The government is also investing $900,000 in new annual funding for the Adoption Council of Ontario to develop a centralized adoption intake service and significantly expand centralized adoption matching.
We will continue to listen to those in this sector so we can determine how we can better support more children and youth in finding permanent homes as we modernize Ontario’s adoption system.
We thank the thousands of families across Ontario who have opened their hearts and homes to children and youth, where adoption is in their best interest.
