COVID Alert Milestone

Published on October 06, 2020

Ontario has reached another important milestone with more than 3 million Canadians downloading the COVID Alert app. As cases rise across the province, COVID Alert is one of the easiest ways to protect our loved ones and our community. We need all Ontarians to download the app.

With a recent increase in cases of COVID-19, it is critical for everyone to follow public health measures. This includes:

  • Staying home when ill, even with mild symptoms;
  • Practicing physical distancing with those outside your household;
  • Wearing a face covering when physical distancing is a challenge or where it is mandatory to do so;
  • Washing your hands frequently and thoroughly; and
  • Adhering to gathering limits and rules.

We need all Ontarians to do their part to help us stop the spread. COVID Alert is one of the easiest ways to protect your loved ones and your community. Over 3 million Canadians have already downloaded COVID Alert. Get the app. Protect yourself. Protect your loved ones. Protect our community. Keep Newmarket-Aurora safe.

The more people who have the app, the more effective it will be.

The app uses Bluetooth technology to exchange a “digital handshake” with others that are within 2 metres of you for at least 15 minutes. If you receive any alert, someone you’ve come into contact with has tested positive within the last 2 weeks. The app collects no personal information or personal health data, and does not know or track the location, name, address, or contacts of any use. It has no knowledge of a user’s identity or device information, and was developed in direct consultation with Ontario’s Information and Privacy Commissioner and the federal Office of the Privacy Commissioner. The app is a vital part of our fight against COVID-19.

COVID Alert is:

  • Free. Download it in the Apple and Google app stores
  • Easy to use. Forget it’s installed and stay safe on your daily journey.
  • Safe and private. It never collects your health information, location or identity.
