Minister Cho announced that the government is investing $2 million over 2 years to launch the Inclusive Community Grant program to help our seniors age in their communities.
This program provides grants of up to $60,000 for municipalities and local organizations to assist in developing supports that projects that plan for and foster inclusive community involvement for older adults and people with disabilities of all ages.
Applications are due by December 21st, and require applicants to be set up in the Transfer Payment Ontario (TPON) system.
Some examples of projects that could be covered by this grant include:
- undertaking local needs assessments to determine gaps in existing supports for seniors and people with disabilities;
- developing action plans and implementing virtual programs;
- retrofitting buildings with ramps and accessible washrooms; and
- installing self-serve kiosks with software that people with vision or hearing loss can use.
We are taking concrete action to help municipalities plan for an aging population so seniors and people of all abilities in Ontario can have a healthy and engaged lifestyle.
