Launch of the 2021 Summer Employment Opportunities program

Published on February 25, 2021

During COVID-19, our students and youth have faced record-high unemployment rates. Now more than ever, it is important to ensure that we provide our youth with the opportunity to gain skills and training to help them succeed in the labour market.

The Summer Employment Opportunities program will help up to 5,000 students across Ontario find exciting summer jobs with the Ontario Public Service.

The annual program gives young Ontarians an opportunity to gain valuable work experience, build strong friendships, and develop unique and important life skills while delivering and supporting the programs, supports and services Ontario offers.

Are you a student or recent graduate looking for a summer job? We offer over 70 different job types in areas like science, tech, business, environment and more.

The program gives participants the opportunity to learn and grow by:

  • Gaining valuable work experience
  • Getting exposure to a range of different career areas
  • Improving their French/English language skills, where applicable
  • Giving them an opportunity to network and learn about a career in the OPS
  • Have fun while earning an income over the summer

The Government of Ontario will continue to monitor the program adaptations that may be needed due to public health measures. We will remain flexible in our approach to hiring and finding meaningful work for students. Any proposed changes will be communicated as early as possible.
