Newmarket-Aurora Child Care Workers become Vaccine Eligible

Published on April 27, 2021

The efforts of child care leaders, educators, and staff have been instrumental in helping to keep children safe and families supported. We are taking further action to support these critical frontline workers and their families by expanding vaccination eligibility.

We are pleased to confirm that, as of Thursday, April 29, 2021, licensed child care workers will be eligible to book a vaccine appointment — which will further protect families and these key workers across Ontario.

The following child care workers will be eligible:

  • Licensees, employees and students (18+) on an educational placement who interact directly with children in licensed child care centres and in authorized recreation and skill building programs.
  • Licensed home child care and in-home service providers, employees of a home child care agency and students (18+) on an educational placement who interact directly with children in a licensed home child care setting.

Eligible workers in the licensed child care system will receive a letter from their employer. This letter must be available at the point of booking and taken to the vaccination appointment.

We are grateful for the hard work of our child care providers who are providing critically needed emergency childcare services, with a record number of people taking advantage of this important service.

Our childcare centres are safe and the expansion of vaccines will further protect children and staff.

As the MPP Christine Elliott has said many times, the best vaccine is the first vaccine available to you.
