Ontario Acting to Combat Antisemitism in Schools

Published on July 08, 2021

The government stands firmly against all forms of religious and racial discrimination and intolerance. We must and will do more to decisively combat hatred in all it’s forms.

Antisemitism, discrimination, and hatred directed against people because they are Jewish is unacceptable. Yet, it is disturbingly on the rise in Canada and around the world.

An annual audit conducted by B’Nai Brith Canada reported a record number of anti-Semitic incidents for the fourth consecutive year. The number of incidents targeting the Jewish population in 2019 was 296.

That is why the government is providing $327K in supports to provide the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies to provide training for staff and supports for students to combat antisemitism in homes, schools and communities.

As part of the government’s $6.4M Safe Return to Class fund these initiatives will help ensure students learn in more inclusive classrooms and are supported by their educators and communities.

Under Premier Ford’s leadership, this government will do whatever it takes to end discrimination and prejudice in Ontario.
