Ontario Advances Plans for Yonge North Subway Extension into York Region

Published on July 20, 2021

MPP Christine Elliott welcomed and joined Minister Mulroney and Associate Minister Cho to Newmarket in announcing updated plans for the Yonge North Subway Extension. The government’s plans include moving ahead with a fourth station at Clark Avenue that will maximize benefits for residents and minimize community impacts.

We’re advancing plans to extend the TTC’s Line 1 Subway from Finch Station to Richmond Hill – another milestone on one of Ontario’s priority subway. With it, the government has achieved another milestone on the Yonge North Subway Extension by confirming Clark Station as the fourth station along the extension.

Clark Station is the clear choice. The station will support our growing communities here in York Region and serve more than 2,500 customers during the busiest travel hour and provide riders with essential connections to Viva Orange, which establishes access to surrounding employment centres and residential neighbourhoods.

This will help spread demand across the existing transit network and make it easier for people to choose transit first.

Alongside Metrolinx, our government is actively pursuing ways to refine the route of the extension so that it minimizes impacts to communities and provides the best service possible.

We will continue to work in collaboration with York Region and the City of Toronto to build the Yonge North Subway Extension, which will get people where they want to go, reduce congestion, and drive economic growth and job creation for years to come.
