Ontario Combating Gun and Gang Violence

Published on November 18, 2021

The senseless gun violence we see in Newmarket and other Ontario communities needs to stop. Ensuring the safety and security of the people of Ontario is the government’s most fundamental responsibility and we are taking action to keep them safe from the threats of gun violence and gang activity.

That is why the government is investing an additional $75.1 million over three years million to reinforce the fight against gun and gang violence in communities across the province.

This investment will help focus our efforts and bring our fight against street gangs and organized crime to the next level.

To date, along with federal partners, the government has invested approximately $187 million to dismantle criminal networks, prevent cross boarder trafficking, enhance investigative supports, and increase collaboration among the justice sector.

By providing our frontline officers with the many tools and resources they need to do their jobs, only then can we ensure all Ontario communities will remain safe places to live, work and play.

We encourage everyone is Newmarket-Aurora, If you see something, Say something! Always call 9-1-1 in the event an emergency or use the York Regional Police's Online Reporting System: https://www.yrp.ca/en/Online-Reporting.asp
