Ontario Extending Temporary Wage Increase for Personal Support Workers

Published on June 11, 2021

Ontario's government is committed to supporting personal support workers and direct support workers as they care for Ontarians during the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To support these health care heroes and help stabilize, attract and retain the workforce, we are investing $141 million to further extend the temporary wage enhancement until August 23, 2021.

Since October 1, 2020, the government has invested a total of $841 million to provide this temporary wage increase to over 158,000 workers who care for our loved ones in publicly funded home and community care, long-term care, public hospitals, and social services sectors. Workers in each of these sectors in Newmarket-Aurora have benefited and will continue to benefit.

This investment builds on the historic investments the government is making to create a better and more connected health care system centred around patients, families and caregivers.
