Ontario Marks One Year Anniversary of COVID-19 Pandemic

Published on March 12, 2021

We mark one year since the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. Since then, Ontario has tragically lost more than 7,000 lives to this deadly virus. In a display of solidarity, health organizations across the province are asking the public to remember those who have died from the virus. We honour those who have lost their lives and extend our deepest condolences to their loved ones by lighting a candle for COVID.

We also take a moment to honour our health care workers and essential workers for their heroic sacrifices and contributions to Ontario’s pandemic response.

It is also an opportunity to reflect on the hope that lies ahead. During this difficult and unprecedented year, we have seen great acts of kindness, compassion and generosity from people all across Ontario. The people of Ontario are resilient and we will get through this together.
