Ontario Releases Report to Lead the Future of Work

Published on December 10, 2021

The government is working hard to ensure Ontario is the best place to work, live and raise a family. With COVID-19 came a historic disruption that shifted the landscape of work and created new opportunities to ensure the system is working for workers.

We know that in order to better adapt with the changing landscape of work, we needed to better understand the challenges workers are currently facing.

That’s why the government commissioned and released the Ontario Workforce Recovery Advisory Committee’s final report.

The committee consulted extensively with workers, labour groups, businesses, and academics across Ontario and internationally to provide the government with 21 recommendations designed to create a better future for workers.

The committee delivered their interim report in the summer, which has led to the passing of first-of-their-kind changes in Canada through the Working for Workers Act, 2021.

We are considering all of the report’s recommendations and plans to take further action, including steps to protect and support digital platform workers.

The recommendations in the report will help us better protect those who are vulnerable, attract and retain top talent, spark innovation, and create a culture that promotes work-life balance.

These changes complement actions the government is already taking to improve and expand transportation, virtual care and broadband internet access to ensure Ontario becomes a “work from anywhere” province.
