Provincial Funding for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Training

Published on January 11, 2021

The government is making key investments to meet the needs of every student, regardless of the barriers they face.

During this pandemic, families are facing incredible difficulty. Most especially parents with children with autism, which is why the government more than doubled funding for ASD and increased special education funding to the highest levels in Ontario history.

We are going further by investing $7.5 million to provide educators with the specialized training they need to better support the educational, social, communication, and behavioural outcomes of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

This investment builds on the government’s long-standing partnership with the Geneva Centre for Autism and draws on their in-depth understanding of what educators need to support students with ASD.

This new initiative will help educators gain a better understanding of the individual needs of children and youth on the autism spectrum and how to respond to them, improve learning opportunities and outcomes, and support inclusivity and respect in our schools.

Our focused investments are a true reflection of the government’s commitment towards ensuring the success of our students and providing supports and resources to those who need it most.
