Safe Restart Agreement - Child Care

Published on August 11, 2020

On Friday, August 7, 2020 the government announced that, in partnership with the federal government, we are providing $234.6 million in funding to keep children and staff safe in child care and early years settings. This funding is being provided to support enhanced cleaning costs and health and safety requirements set out to support the reopening of licensed child care centres and early years programs. This funding is in addition to the Ontario government’s continued commitment to stabilize the child care sector as many Ontarians return to work.

We know that child care is critical to restarting the economy as more parents return to work - moms and dads will not have to choose between their children or their career. The province, in partnership with the federal government, is providing $234.6 million in funding to keep children, families and staff safe. Ontario's commitment to parents is that we will never waver in prioritizing the health and safety of their children.

The Safe Restart Agreement will ensure a strong recovery for Ontario and for Canada, representing $234 million in direct supports for Ontario’s child care sector. We will continue to prioritize the health and safety of children and staff, through increased funding, PPE, and health operating guidance to the sector.

We will continue to do all we can to support Ontario families, just like we have with the Support for Families initiative, when we froze child care fees during the pandemic, and providing the CARE tax credit. As always, the safety of children, families and staff remains our government’s top priority.
