Seeking Public Feedback to Improve the Towing Industry

Published on December 18, 2020

The government, like everyone who uses Ontario’s roads and highways, is deeply concerned with the continued incidents of violence and criminal activity in the towing industry.

That is why the government has established a task force to improve provincial oversight of the towing industry.

The survey will remain open until January 15, 2021. This task force will help develop a regulatory model that will increase safety and enforcement, clarify protections for consumers, improve industry standards and consider tougher penalties for violators.

Ontario’s task force has consulted with more than 70 industry partners including insurance providers, municipalities, law enforcement, towing representatives and consumer representatives.

We are now launching a public survey to hear from Ontarians on their experiences with the towing industry. We encourage everyone to participate in our survey by visiting

Input from the survey will be used to help inform the province’s development of an oversight model to increase safety, better protect consumers and improve towing industry standards.

Decisions on timing and a path forward will be made once stakeholder and partner feedback is considered.

Safety is the government’s top priority. We will report back to Ontarians on the taskforce’s proposals for further action to improve safety on Ontario roadsides and in the towing industry.
