Sports and Recreation FacilitiesPublished on August 17, 2020
As the province gradually and safely reopens, the government is continuing to promote a safe approach to reopening businesses to boost Ontario’s economic and social recovery. In consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, the government has amended the Stage 3 regulations and created new guidance to enable greater use of sport and recreational fitness facilities.
This regulatory amendment will permit facilities for sports and recreational fitness activities to have up to 50 patrons in each indoor sport or fitness room in their facility, with all persons maintaining two metres physical distance.
This will help gymnasiums, health clubs, community centres, multi-purpose facilities, arenas, exercise studios, yoga and dance studios and other fitness facilities to operate profitably and get more employees back to work as part of Ontario’s economic recovery.
As these facilities are now reopening with increased access, Ontario will continue to work with sport and recreation organizations across the province on their safe return to play. For more information on current return to play protocols, you can visit ontario.ca/page/return-to-play.
