Updating Testing GuidelinesPublished on October 01, 2020
Today, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, the government is updating its COVID-19 school and child care screening guidance to help parents make informed decisions about whether their children should attend school or child care, consult their health care provider, or seek a COVID-19 test. This additional guidance will help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and ensure our students and teachers can safely go to school.
We are grateful to Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health for his advice on the development of Ontario’s Back-to School Plan.
Based on advice from the Chief Medical Officer of Health, Ontario is updating the COVID-19 school and child care screening tool with two sets of questions about symptoms and information to help parents make informed decisions about whether their children should attend school or child care, need to consult a health care provider, or get tested for COVID-19.
The focus remains on limiting the spread within schools by listening to and acting upon the best available medical advice, which includes ensuring all layers of prevention are in place to keep kids safe.
By taking these steps we can ensure that children receive the education and care that they need while minimizing the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
